Skin Cancer Surgical Service

How Our Service Works

• Our surgeons operate daily with the capacity to add skin cancer and lesion cases onto existing lists.
• We accept referrals either with biopsy already completed or still requiring biopsy.
• Patients are allocated to the next available surgeon on an ASAP basis.

Our Rapid Response

• All referrals are reviewed the same day by our triage nurse and on-call surgeon.
• Patients are contacted within 48 hours of referral.
• Consultations for malignant and high-risk referrals are scheduled within 2 weeks.
• Consultations for other lesion referrals are scheduled within 6 weeks.
• Surgery is performed urgently, as clinically required, for all malignant and high-risk referrals.
• Benign lesions are operated on within 8 weeks of referral.

Patient Care

• All patients receive post-operative care in our nurse dressing clinic, open 5 days a week.
• We do not provide a skin monitoring service — patients are referred back to their primary care provider for ongoing surveillance and follow-up.
• Referrers can contact our triage nurse and on-call surgeon for urgent enquiries or patient follow-up by calling 1300 1WAPSC (1300 192 772).

How to Make a Referral

• Referrals can be made by phone, email, fax, or HealthLink EDI.
• Please provide lesion images (by email or text) with referrals. Tag images with the patient’s first name, surname initial, and date of birth (DOB).

Patient Costs

• Patients are charged AMA rates and receive a full fee quote (including surgeon and hospital fees).
• Pensioner discounts are available.
