Dr Vij Vijayasekaran

Vij completed his medical training at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 1995, graduating with degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

After a further 10 years of post graduate training through Royal Perth Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and Princess Margaret Hospital – including 5 years of comprehensive specialist training, Vij became a Specialist Plastic Surgeon in 2005 when he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

He undertook post-fellowship subspecialty training in cosmetic surgery, hand surgery and paediatric reconstructive surgery at several internationally renowned institutions in Melbourne, Australia and Toronto, Canada before returning to Perth in 2007 to join the Western Australian Plastic Surgery Centre.

Vij is also a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, including cleft lip and palate surgery, at Perth Children’s Hospital.

Other professional activities

  • First surgeon in Australia to be awarded an Advanced Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship by the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, enabling him to gain extensive experience in aesthetic surgery of the breast (breast augmentation, short scar breast reduction and breast lift techniques), body contouring surgery (abdominoplasty) and rhinoplasty.
  • Awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2002 for providing medical expertise and assistance to the victims of the Bali bombings at Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar, Bali.
  • Awarded ‘Australian of the Year’ by The Australian newspaper in 2002.
  • Actively involved in training other medical professionals, ranging from both undergraduate and postgraduate students through to General Practitioners and trainee surgeons.
